Exterior Care

The small detail that's quietly working against your kerb appeal

Wheelie bins aren't part of your house, but research keeps showing they matter more to how a home is perceived than most people expect.

Of all the things that shape a first impression of a home, wheelie bins seem like they shouldn't matter much. They're not part of the house. They're not something anyone chose or designed. And yet, research keeps turning up the same finding: bins matter more than people expect.

What the research actually says

In a survey of UK homebuyers, the HomeOwners Alliance found that concealed or well-managed wheelie bins featured directly among the top kerb appeal factors buyers look for. Separately, research by Evolution Money found that visible, poorly kept rubbish bins were named by 21% of people as a factor that actively damages a home's first impression, on the same list as damaged windows and cracked exterior walls.

Why bins get neglected

It's an odd blind spot. Homeowners will happily invest time and money into a nice front door or a tidy garden, but the bins sat right next to them are often years overdue a proper clean. Cleaning a wheelie bin properly means a hose, a scrubbing brush, strong enough cleaning products, and a fair bit of unpleasant effort, so most people just let it slide. Over time that build-up isn't just about appearance either. Grime, residue, and bacteria inside a bin are what cause the smell that lingers on collection day.

A five-minute job that changes a first impression

A proper jet wash, inside and out, removes the built-up grime, kills the smell at the source, and leaves your bins looking like new, sat right at the front of your property where everyone can see them. It's quick, affordable, and you notice the difference the very same day. See our Exterior Care page for the full range of what we offer.
